Working on motor
ships equipped with MAN B&W Diesel propulsion units, the
chief engineer of Novorossiysk Shipping Company Alexander Shamin
has paid attention to problems arising during their exploitation.
As it has appeared, the basic cause is non-hermetic high-pressure
fuel pumps.
In 1977 fuel pumps were hermetically
sealed on the motor ship the General Merkviladze. All problems of
the diesel were solved. This is the year when the company Express
Diesel Ship Service Limited was actually born, even though there
was a long way to go before it was formally established - when the
former Soviet republics headed for the market reforms.
As all useful inventions go, highly
hermetic valves were not accepted at once. But practical workers
became very quickly convinced, that the tightening of fuel pumps
according to a method of Alexander Shamin, bring tangible results
in fuel and resources economy.
Until 1985, modernization was carried
out by pressurization of regular valves of engines; the own construction
of a suction valve was developed later.
A group of senior marine engineers
and experts of leading ship repair facilities of western pool have
founded the Company Express Diesel Ship Service Ltd. in the form
of a closed joint-stock company in 1992. June 20 is the birthday
of the Company.
Now our company continues to successfully
modernize and tune the fuel equipment of the propulsion units made
by the MAN B&W Diesel Company and its licensees.
