List of benefits/effects from EDS modernization
Modernization of fuel equipment is directed
on increasing the injection pressure, providing qualitative spraying
and complete burning of the fuel.
As results of high-pressure fuel pumps sealing follows these benefits/effects:
1. Decreasing temperature of exhaust gases with 20-50 degrees centigrade.
2. Increasing engine rotation speed till nominal.
3. Decreasing the minimal stable rotational frequency of the main
engines.
This will in significant degree improve engine’s maneuvering
characteristic.
4. Reducing fuel consumption up to 10 per cent.*
5. Reducing quantity of harmful emissions to the atmosphere.
6. Total absence of vibration that is most important for Gas Carriers.
7. The exception of fires in under-piston spaces and its consequences.
8. Gas-turbo-heater and waste heat boilers do not become clogged
with scale and do not subject to fires.
9. Cessation of exhaust valves' burning through.
10. Decreasing wear of engine’s parts (cylinder-and-piston
unit).
11. Suction valves of EDS design do not subject to failure unlike
to standard ones (“MC” type main engines).
12. When it is necessary to transmit engine to the light sorts of
fuel, as for example Panama Canal Regulation demands, engines with
EDS suction valves could be easy started. To do the same is problematically
on engine with standard suction valves, especially on “MC”
series main engines.
13. It is possible to repair suction valves of EDS design by mechanics
on board.
* The size of reducing fuel consumption is not constant for all
vessels. But based on increasing the injection pressure and other
indirect parameters, it can be up to 10
per cent.
